Today’s piece’s focus is not only for readers but for myself as well. Sometimes we fail to listen to our own advice but are excellent at giving it to others.
A few days ago I met Dushun Wang. Some might not be familiar with him however, I would have honestly wanted to meet him in person. Thankfully, social media made me look forward to that encounter; I met him in a short online viral clip as he narrated his life and for days I conjured words in my head of a better way to bring to life an inspiring speech but still could not match his. He told his story best, and this is what he had to say;
“Born and raised in Shenyang, China, many people started noticing me after a catwalk show. Some people call me “The Hottest Grandpa.” Some also said that I am an instant internet sensation (laughs)
But you know what, to prepare for this day, I have been getting ready for 60 YEARS.
At 24, I was a theatrical actor. At 44 I started learning English. At 49, I created my own pantomime troupe and went to BEIJING DRIFTER. I had nothing my name, starting everything from scratch.
At 50, I stepped into my first gym, started working out. At 57, I returned to the stage and created the worlds only form of performance art called ‘LIVING SCULPTURE PERFORMANCE.’
At 70, I really got into working out. At 79, I got on my first catwalk. I am 80 this year and I still got some left in me. I still have some dreams to achieve.

Believe me, potential can be explored. When you think it’s too late, be careful you don’t let that become an excuse to giving up.
No one can keep you from success except yourself. When its time to shine, be the brightest.
I am Dushun Wang. I am the fiercest. Northeasterner.”
Honestly, if his story does not inspire you, I do not know what can.
We have read many books, heard many stories, watched a lifetime of inspiring movies but once in a while we forget and lag, giving reasons to justify how unhappy we are. This is a reminder to awake and keep moving forward. Speed and quantity is of little importance, progress is. Don’t stop.
Keep moving.
