Hey there, it’s been forever
I should probably say welcome back but at this scenario, I feel I’m the one welcomed back haha!
So before we embark on my disappearance excuses, look at what I bumped into…
This plant is nature’s own food. It would ripen up and be as black as the night. That’s when you know its ready. It’s tiny fruits would make a yummy marmalade, with no preservatives.
Just like wine, the older it became, the sweeter it will taste. The nectar of the tiny flowers would have you competing with the bees.
I can only identify it by sight, and just recently learned it’s name in my mother tongue, Nyabendwinyo or Nyabendi; botanical name, Lantana Camara.
It’s believed to be a problematic plant as it is toxic to livestock and pops out of nowhere in farms which if unattended, one is left with one heck of a thicket to clear.
Call it a weed but this plant right here brings good childhood memories. It can’t make you full hahha but whenever I left school in the evening before dinner, my siblings and I would munch on these and carry some home to my mom. Think of it as an appetizer haha!
Cheers!

When I was a kid. We used to dry the leaves then roll it on paper and proceed to smoke it. One day, my mother popped out of nowhere and caught me red handed!! ……. smh… Let just say she is the reason I don’t smoke.

The plant is non toxic, goats really love it. It helps during dry season as it rarely dries out. Other name is “atek” or “tektagwari”
