Adulting has finally reached its peak, leading us to a constant work schedule, which is a continuous state of vigilance such that our bodies become immobile and only learn to relax once the situation is solved.
Many a times I have heard, ‘ I have to finish this or that or else I won’t be able to eat…sleep or do anything. Our bodies have developed a responsive mechanism to stress and unless the issue is sorted, it will refuse to calm down.
This mechanism is only useful in the event of imminent danger. It’s our bodies simultaneous activity that help us keep our body and mind together however, we kinda end up overusing it to non-priority circumstances for example, stressing over time when it will keep moving regardless of whether one is late for an appointment or not. Stressing over it won’t slow time down.
In this state, only one thing will happen. Burnout Stress, which will in turn accelerate other unwanted visitors like diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure and so forth.
How about we do a stress check list.
1. Cellphones
Switch off your phone especially at night and keep it that way till morning. It’s time to disconnect and recharge your mind to repel the exhaustion of the day.
2. Time outs
Take 30 minutes out everyday to pause and do nothing. Yoga fanatics will understand this. No music , no distractions, no thinking and definitely close your eyes and breath and listen to your heartbeat. This is why when you sleep your mind goes to rest hence waking up feeling rejuvenated.
3. Try to live in the present.
Past occurrences especially unpleasant ones are like scars that are meant to stripe us as tigers and survivors of challenging life situations however, more often than not we tend to look at them differently such that we attach ourselves to them to be a source of self pity which comes out as negative energy. No one wants to hang around a nimbus cloud , rather, who would choose a stormy weather when they can enjoy the sun ?
4. Sports and hobbies
Never give up on things you used to do as a child, by then, the mind wasn’t churned up with adulting hahaha. Remind yourself constantly why you loved them in the first place and get on it. Make your life beautiful.
5. Access your mood.
Sometimes we wake up moody and gloomy for no reason. How about we stop and access our mood. If it has no basis for gloom, kick it out of the window and live like the royal you are.
6. Family and friends
As you will agree, home is where your heart is. Find people close to you who genuinely make you happy and recap on good memories and make many new ones.
7. Seek help.
As a last resort when no solution bears fruit, find someone productive to talk to.
